Exterior check
Walk around the cabin before winter sets in. Clear the gutters of leaves and dirt. Check that the roof is in good condition and that there are no loose roof tiles or damage. Remove branches that hang over the roof.
Safety and insurance
Check that the smoke alarms have fresh batteries. Close and lock all windows and doors properly. It is a good idea to let a neighbour know that the cabin is standing empty. Review your insurance documents and check that the coverage is adequate.
