«We wanted a proper cabin retreat that gave us peace and a sense of calm – and log construction gave us exactly that,» says Kim. The result is a warm, welcoming cabin that the family uses actively in both summer and winter.

The art of log construction: a living Norwegian tradition

Log construction is a building technique with roots stretching back over a thousand years. Discover why this craft is still flourishing.

Log construction is not merely a building technique – it is an art form. For more than a thousand years, Norwegian craftsmen have refined the technique of building solid, beautiful timber houses. With us, this tradition lives on, combined with modern knowledge and technology.

The oldest preserved log buildings in Norway date back to the Viking age. The technique has survived because it works – a log house is solid, naturally insulated and can stand for centuries with proper maintenance. Our stave churches are living proof of the durability of timber construction.

Modern log construction techniques

Today's log houses combine traditional aesthetics with modern requirements for insulation and comfort. We use dried materials that minimise settling, and modern machinery ensures precision in every cut. But the fundamental craft – understanding the timber and how it behaves – is something no machine can replace.

  • Material quality
  • We hand-pick timber from standing forest, primarily pine and spruce from higher-altitude areas where the trees grow slowly and develop a dense, strong structure. Every tree is assessed for quality, and only the very best is selected for our projects.
  • Slow-growing spruce and pine from the high mountains
  • Carefully controlled moisture content in the timber
